Living in Tenerife
Eternal sunshine, ocean breeze, infinite beaches and a forever warm spring?
Yes, island living can sound like a paradise and it’s true, Tenerife does look and feel like one, but there can be some challenges.
Tenerife is nicknamed as the island of eternal Spring, and indeed the weather is as close to perfect as it can be. The temperature during day is never below 20° C in Winter time and it is never over 35° C in the Summer and even so, the breeze makes it very pleasant to be outdoors.
It is a volcanic island which means that you can enjoy both the sea side with some unique black sand beaches, and the mountain side with a lunar landscape experience.
Beside the most iconic landscapes, there is a load of other activities that you can do and a whole lot of other sides of the island, less touristic ones that are worth to see.
Regarding activities you can choose from a wide range of aquatic sports such as jet skiing, water boarding, surfing, snorkeling and scuba diving, dolphin and whale watching, boat trips and even submarine experiences.
As for exploring the rest of the island we recommend a trip to the north for the capital city of the Canary Islands, Santa Cruz de Tenerife. You will discover that the city is both extremely local like but as well touristic. In the same area you can choose to visit Los Gigantes, the natural pools of Garacico or just enjoy the Las Teresitas beach, one of the biggest on the island.
Whether enjoy more an adventure or just prefer to sit back and relax, a must in Tenerife are the aquatic wonderland Siam Park and the animal garden of Loro Parque.
Now about some challenges on the island, as I spent four months in Tenerife in the southern area, things can get a little tricky at some point. I worked as a bartender in one of the most popular clubs there. That area is a popular one for being only clubs and entertainment so spending a lot of time in there might start to be a slippery slope.
Nonetheless, working abroad for a season was for me a very valuable experience from which I learned a lot, I experimented a totally new job and a new passion, met some great people, made some amazing friends. It wasn’t easy and it definitely wasn’t stress free but in the end, it was all worth it!
