Tech Favourites – My Web Dev Setup

About half a year ago I quit my full time job to become a freelance frontend developer and designer – it seemed to be the perfect time, given the whole pandemic situation we had going on.

That being said, that meant no more going to an office and working 100% of the time from the comfort of my own home. Which was fine, until it no longer was fine, because it became difficult to separate work from personal life. I got into the habit of working from the living room or the kitchen simply because I got bored of the room I “converted” into an office.

That’s when I realised I needed to make a change. I had to at least make that room feel like an actual office that I enjoyed being in, a space that makes me be productive.

Here’s a list of things I bought to help me create the perfect office space:

1. Standing Desk – Ikea

This desk is available in three different widths (48in, 60in and 72in)  to suit the needs of your home office and can be set up in minutes using the two included Allen wrenches. The desk features two t-style legs that each contain a motor that allow it to be raised to a maximum height of 50.5in (128cm) or lowered to 25in (63.5cm).

In addition to being able to choose from three widths, the Bekant desk is also available in three different finishes (black, white and dark wood). The desk is able to support up to 90 kg which makes it an ideal choice for power users with multiple monitors and heavier workstation PCs.

2. Ergonomic Chair – Ergoplus Mike-H

A good office chair is going to help you maintain a neutral posture, which means sitting with your feet flat on the floor, your knees slightly higher than your hips, and your hips, shoulders, and ears all lined up with each other.

This chair has supportive mesh as well as the ability to adjust its armrests and seat height. You can also adjust the angle of the back of the chair, as well as the position of the seat, to fit your size perfectly. It’s at a great price point as well!

3. Laptop – Apple Macbook Pro

I might be biased because of the whole Apple environment and how much I enjoy using most of their products, but the 14-inch 2021 Macbook Pro is the best laptop for what I need at the moment. No other description needed.

4. Ultra Wide Monitor – Huawei MateView GT

I actually have an entire post about this monitor and how much I love it, make sure to check it out.

5. Wireless Keyboard – Logitech MX Keys Mini

I tried multiple keyboards, both mechanical and regular and I always tend to come back to this one – it’s comfortable to type, it’s pretty compact and has Windows, Linux, and Mac modes.

It’s a wireless keyboard and has excellent battery life lasting up to 10 days while using the backlight and up to 5 months without it. As expected from Logitech, you can use their software to customise the keyboard, and you can connect up to 3 different devices on wireless mode using Bluetooth.

6. Wireless Mouse – Apple Magic Mouse 2

This one is a favourite because of the multitouch commands. They are easy to execute, including swiping left and right between browser pages, and up and down between full-screen apps, and bringing up Mission Control with a double-tap of two fingers.

7. Wireless Earbuds – Apple Airpods Pro

Last apple product of the day. The noise cancelling feature of these makes them my favourite wireless earbuds by far, they really offer an amazing user experience and work seamlessly with any of my devices. Battery life isn’t the best but they do charge pretty quickly in the case.
