Jingle Bells=Family Stress. What’s Christmas for?

Let’s not forget what Christmas is really about!

Christmas can have a different meaning for everyone. For me, Christmas is all about family, reunion, food, and fun together. It is also about gifts, but not about their value but about their significance.

It’s time to go to grandparents, and on Christmas Eve we sit down for a glass of mulled wine, talk and unwrap the gifts we receive. The first day of Christmas is the favorite time when the whole family gathers at the table and the house is fuller of noise, laughter and good mood as it was not that year.

It’s a pity that before all these good times, there is a lot of agitation in the house. Mom is busy finishing all 100 dishes and doing general cleaning. My father is busy repairing various things, the house being quite old and decorating the yard and the house. It all sounds nice and nothing looks wow, but believe me, nerves and stress are everywhere in the house in the run-up to Christmas.

Not to mention the stress created by gifts. ‘What should I take for X? What should I take for Y? Where do I find this now? ‘ Sometimes it seems to me that we are forgetting what Christmas really is. It’s not about pompous gifts, it’s not about super general cleaning, it’s not about 100 dishes. It’s just about family and the joy of meeting everyone again.

Neverending story

Every year after Christmas, together with my parents, we promise that history will not repeat itself. We promise that next year we will not be so stressed and nervous, that we will not try to mess with the preparations and gifts and that we will be much more focused only on the moments themselves. Well … I told you we promise that every year, right? Haha, this year has been the same. It will probably be the same next year also.

Ehh, let’s just say that is part of the Christmas spirit. Uhuuu!
